ADMISSION

Thank you for your interest in Brown University 's Graduate School.

Brown is one of the most highly esteemed universities in the nation and a member of the Ivy League. Its superlative programs in undergraduate, graduate, and medical education are characterized by a distinctive academic philosophy, a world-class faculty, and a tradition of innovative and rigorous multidisciplinary study. Brown's mission is to serve the community, the nation, and the world by educating and preparing students – in the words of its original charter – "to discharge the offices of life with usefulness and reputation" in a unified community known as a university-college.

At present the University is embarked on an ambitious Plan for Academic Enrichment, a history-making investment of new resources. This Plan will build on Brown's strengths by establishing new benchmarks of excellence in research, education, and leadership. One of the Plan's stated goals – "excellence in graduate education" – has led to significant investment by the University in the Graduate School, allowing us to increase base stipends, to make health-insurance coverage more widely available, and to increase the research and partnership opportunities for graduate students.

Brown students are distinguished by academic excellence, self-direction, and a collaborative style of learning. Faculty members pursue their own research while remaining deeply committed to teaching both graduate and undergraduate students.
