Diversity

Brown is nationally recognized for its commitment to, and success in, addressing diversity on its campus. We seek the broadest and most diverse range of perspectives in all aspects of our academic and nonacademic undertakings, and we emphasize the value of the creativity, coherence, and conceptual and analytical rigor that diversity brings to learning.

In 1968 Brown University began its effort to make the graduate student body more fully representative of the multicultural and multiracial character of contemporary society. Since then, the Graduate School has actively sought to attract students who in the past, because of ethnic prejudice, racial discrimination, or economic deprivation, might not have entered or even applied to a graduate school.

The University does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a veteran, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, or other school administered programs. The University designates officers who are responsible for issues of compliance and who will be available to answer questions and provide advice. Procedures have also been established should students allege a grievance.
