Brown students have a powerful opportunity to become part of a vibrant and exciting research community
here at the University. There’s a universe of cutting-edge research going on at Brown – from
the workings of the human brain to the planets that inhabit our solar system, Brown faculty are
exploring new realms in science, medicine, the humanities, and arts and culture.
Research projects require the hands and minds of many people. Students perform research at
Brown find an open and encouraging environment that welcomes creative thinking. They foster
thoughtful relationships with their collaborators, from faculty to fellow students, and with the subject
material itself. Concepts developed in the course of research can lead to more opportunity, at
Brown and beyond.
Research at Brown reflects the innovative and interdisciplinary character of the University itself.
The Office of the Vice President for Research supports research through administration (Office of
Research Administration), funding, and interdepartmental communications. In addition, it fosters
liaisons between the world outside the University and the research world within the University,
through such mechanisms as Brown Technology Partnerships (BTP) and a variety of communication
vehicles.
