Admission to the program in artificial organs, biomaterials, and cellular technology is restricted to undergraduate students who are interested in applying for a fifth-year master’s degree. The ABC graduate program was initiated in 1986 in order to meet the interests of graduate students in the specialized field of biomedical engineering, as well as the interests of medical students in the science and technology underlying organ-replacement therapy. The major goal of the ABC program is to prepare graduates for academic and industrial careers in medical biotechnology and tissue engineering. Through exposure to materials science, device fabrication, tissue-culture techniques, and experimental surgery, students are prepared to actively participate in the creative and productive aspects of these diverse and expanding arenas of medical science.
Admission requirements: External applications for admission to the graduate program in Artificial Organs, Biomaterials, and Cellular Technology are no longer being accepted. Brown undergraduates may consult the 5th-year master's page for admission information.
