SUPPORT

The Graduate School at Brown makes every effort to provide students with adequate support through a variety of fellowships, assistantships, and grants.

Doctoral students at Brown receive financial support during their course of study. Incoming doctoral students are guaranteed five years of support, which includes a stipend, tuition remission, and a health-insurance subsidy. All promises of student support are subject to students' making satisfactory academic progress as determined by their programs of study. The University's faculty and graduate students are also very successful in securing graduate student support funding through outside sources; every year grants from such agencies and foundations as the National Institutes of Health and the Mellon Foundation make significant contributions to the scholarship and research at Brown.

Financial aid for master’s students is not centrally managed and varies among programs. If you are interested in a master’s program and have questions about financial aid, please contact the program’s director of graduate study.

Students' official letters of admission provide details of their funding packages (i.e., the number of years and levels of support). All subsequent funding decisions are made at the departmental level and depend on students' academic progress. Students with questions or concerns regarding their funding should address them to their department's director of graduate studies.
